around the earth. They receive a signal from multiple satellites
at a time and use the position information received to display the

You will be using a Magellan
GPS 310 device like the one used in class. Follow the steps below
to collect location data for your trees.
1.
Press the power (red) button in the bottom right corner of
the device.
2.
Wait for the device to begin receiving data from at least three
satellites. This may take approximately 2-3 minutes.
3.
Move to the base of the tree that you are selecting to identify.
4.
Read the longitude and latitude data from the GPS and record on your
worksheet.
5.
Remember to turn the GPS off by pressing the power button.
