Writing a Research Report

Often students think that writing a research report simply means copying information from websites or reference books.  However, a research report involves reading material, understanding what it says, and putting it in your own words.  It also involves citing the sources from which you borrow information.

In Dogsong by Gary Paulsen, Russel takes a dogsled team on an icy trek across the Alaskan wilderness.  Each year many people go on a similar journey when they participate in the Iditarod race.  Research this race and explain what it is, where it takes place, why it began, when it occurs, who participates, and how the participants prepare for the competition.  You may also include any additional information that you think is important.

Using a minimum of three sources, write this report according to MLA guidelines.  Be sure to include internal documentation and a works cited page in your product.
