Writing a Descriptive Essay

A descriptive essay describes or provides the reader with sensory images. Sensory images involve the the five senses--seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and smelling.

Think about the many Alaskan scenes that Gary Paulsen describes in Dogsong. Then read the prompt below and write a descriptive essay on this topic.

Think about an Alaskan scene that Russel, the protagonist in Dogsong, encounters on his journey across mountains and tundra. Describe one scene so that your reader will be able to picture it.

As you write your paper, remember to:

Describe one Alaskan scene.
Provide details so that your reader will be able to picture this scene.
Check to make sure that you are writing good paragraphs.
Use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
