| There once was a man named Jack. Everyone disliked him because he was much like scrooge. One day as Jack was taking a nap in the woods, he looked over and saw the devil beside him. The devil wanted to make a bargain with Jack for his soul, because he had noticed how greedy Jack was. So, Jack thought for a while, and then told the devil that he could not make a decision on an empty stomach, so he told the devil to climb up the tree and get him a piece of fruit. While the devil was doing this, Jack carved a cross onto the tree, because the devil can't pass over a cross. The devil was very mad, but agreed to Jack, when Jack told him he would scratch off the cross to let the devil down, if he promised to never ask for his soul again. Well, when Jack died, he wasn't accepted to heaven, because he had lived such a greedy life, and the devil wouldn't accept him, because of the deal they had made. So, Jack had to wonder on earth for the rest of his life. To light his way, he took a turnip and cut two holes in it, particularly on Halloween Night. That is why we call the Jack O' Lantern the Jack O' Lantern |
